That's the first question most people ask me when they hear I've accepted a position to teach 9th and 10th grade at the American School of Warsaw. Although Warsaw is not usually on the top of the list of destinations for travelers I was very interested in Poland for a number of reasons. First Eastern Europe was in my sights for the next region of the world I hope to explore. I think it's ancient and recent history is fascinating and important and I hope to learn more about both as I explore the region. Although Poland has been economically depressed in the last several years it is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance right now. There's a lot of art, music and films coming out of Poland, yet it remains fairly unvisited as a tourist destination. My feeling is that it will be "discovered" in a few years and the tourist trail will be set in stone.
I also really liked the school. I felt a connection with the director and principal and I'm very interested in the courses I'll be teaching. I'll be teaching 9th grade physical science and a 10th grade course called "Systems in Sustainability."
Of course, leaving is always difficult to do. Saying goodbye to my students and collegues has been really hard and I'm going to miss JM and watching my students grow. But technology is wonderful!
